In a parallel system, either a VLSI architecture in hardware or a parallel program in software, the quality of the final design depends on the ability of a synthesis system to exploit the parallelism hidden in the input description of applications. Since iterative or recursive algorithms are usually the most time-critical parts of an application, the parallelism embedded in the repetitive pattern of an iterative algorithm needs to be explored. This thesis studies techniques and algorithms to expose the parallelism in an iterative algorithm so that the designer can find an implementation achieving a desired execution rate.

Below is a short abstract and bio. In the United States, the deterioration of bridge structures is a multibillion-dollar problem. Many of these bridges have exceeded their designed life-cycle by more than a decade and the number of the bridges reaching critical conditions is increasing.
Therefore, facilitating decision-making for optimal bridge maintenance scheduling is crucial and plays a significant role in bridge management.
In order to achieve such schedule, analytical method is required to optimize conflicting factors over the life-cycle of the bridge, which are i structural performance, and ii maintenance cost. In this dissertation, to enrich previous works as a continuation and overcome limitations in maintenance decision-making process, an advanced reliability-based multi-objective optimization methodology for maintenance scheduling of deteriorating bridges is proposed.
The objective is to optimize probabilistic total maintenance cost and minimum annual system reliability index as structural performance metric. The outcome is a decision-making framework regarding repair and replacement of the structure over the life-cycle in terms of schedule and type of action to-be-performed on selected components, considering system requirements, structure specification, as well as available budget.
She is advised by Professor Ali Touran. Her research is focused on optimal decision-making in reliability-based maintenance scheduling for bridge superstructures.
